The Clark Volunteer Emergency Squad Inc. was first organized on December 7, 1941. The Squad was formed to provide first aid and emergency medical transportation for any Clark resident without a charge of any kind. The Squad’s Charter Members consisted of seven men and fifteen women. The names of these men and women are proudly displayed on the walls of our building. The Squad’s original headquarters was located at the old C.C.C. Camp which is now known as Winfield Park. Then in 1945 the Squad relocated its headquarters to Brant Avenue. We currently reside on Raritan Road. The present building was constructed in 1968. At this time we have 44 Active, 5 Honorary, 21 Life Honorary, & 18 Ladies Auxiliary members. More than 70% of our active members are EMT’s, although the minimum requirement is to be CPR and First Aid Certified. Meetings and Drills are held monthly in which every member is required to attend. In the beginning, the Squad operated a Packard Ambulance and then switched to two Cadillac Ambulances. We currently operate two Braun ambulances and a Ford F350 that are fully equipped, including some extras. All of our Members are trained and certified to operate the Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) which are carried in each ambulance. Our volunteers donate 12 hours of their time each week to help the citizens of Clark. Each spring we start our annual Fund Drive which carries the slogan "Help Us… Help You". This has been our sole source of funding for the past 35 years. |
